Cynthia's description:"My first album (The Sophie Drinker Record) was written with an electric guitar and a loop pedal, in between Brooklyn subways. My second (Homemade Map) was written on acoustic guitar in bedroom fashion on four track cassette and recorded in Manila CA in a beach shack. For my third album (In a Lab), I challenged myself to write a whole record on piano, because the process was foreign to me. A piano: the beach shack came with one, and Dusty and I moved it up to Portland late in 2005. We were celebrating Homemade Map and Here Comes Rocketship and Idle Idol. I wrote songs and looked for work. Laid down the basic tracks on Halloween weekend, 2006. Four years and a house and a baby later, here it is, with its wild variety of sounds. Organs and drums and beats and samples and flutes and harmonies and bass, all transforming those original piano notes."
